The Solheim Cup Back in Europe!
 Print

The Solheim Cup is back on European soil after the terrific performance of Team Europe, who produced an historical first win on US soil at Colorado Golf Club on Sunday.

Here is The Cup at Buckinghamshire Golf Club, the home of the Ladies European Tour.

All the players are in action at the CN Canadian Women’s Open this week, where 16-year-old amateur Lydia Ko will defend.

She has been paired with Solheim Cup heroine Charley Hull, 17, for the first two rounds at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton.

Hull will be playing on a sponsor exemption and looking for her first win since turning professional at the beginning of the season. Hull, who became the youngest player in Solheim Cup history at 17 years, four months and 25 days, posted an impressive 2-1-0 record over three days and routed American Paula Creamer in Sunday singles 5&4. The England native has had an impressive start to her young professional career and has recorded five runner-up finishes in her first nine starts on the Ladies European Tour.

The majority of both Solheim Cup teams are slated to play in Edmonton this week including the star of the biennial event, Caroline Hedwall. The Swede will be bringing plenty of positive momentum to Canada after becoming the first player to go 5-0 in Solheim Cup history en route to Europe’s 18-10 victory last week at Colorado Golf Club. Hedwall sank the clinching putt on the 18th hole to defeat Michelle Wie 1 up and get the 14 points required to tie and retain The Cup, before Catriona Matthew holed the putt for a half to win The Cup outright.

Matthew also made the winning putt for Europe at Barseback in 2003 and will be starring at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open at Archerfield Links in East Lothian next week, from Friday, 30th August to Sunday, 1st September, where she won the title in 2011, just a few miles from her North Berwick home.
