French duo Caroline Afonso and Melodie Bourdy were tied for the lead after the second round of the Fourqueux Ladies Open at Golf de Fourqueux near Paris on Friday.

The pair ended the day tied on two under par, after posting second rounds of 71 and 73 respectively in cool conditions.

Switzerland’s Melanie Maetzler shot a 71 to sit alongside Scot Pamela Feggans and Finland’s Sohvi Harkonen at even par, in a tie for third place.

Bourdy was delighted with her round and smiled a broad smile when she discovered her brother, Gregory Bourdy was leading the BMW Italian Open in Turin after shooting a round of 64, 8 under par. It was only a late charge from Richard Bland that bettered Bourdy at the end of the day. Melodie Bourdy said, ‘Yesterday, we had the same score of -3. In fact, we both hope this will be our week. We encourage each other, but to be honest, I need his encouragements. His experience allows him to find the right words to help me. "

Alonso, the winner of the LETAS Order of Merit in 2010, was one of only four players to shoot under par on a difficult scoring day.  Starting her round from the 9th hole, the Frenchwoman bogeyed her first hole but picked up two birdies on her back nine and a further bogey, before finishing birdie-bogey on the 17th and 18th to finish at one under.

32 players made the cut, which fell at 7 over par, including promising young German amateurs, Ann-Kathrin Lindner and Nina Holleder.  The third round commences at 9.10am on Saturday morning.
