The LET Access Series will trial a pioneering new live scoring system during the Crete Ladies Open at Crete Golf Club from October 28-30.
The players competing in the tournament will input their own scores and those of their playing partner by using a PDA (personal digital assistant, or, an electronic, handheld device).
This means that hole by hole live scores will be posted on the internet immediately, allowing followers to get the most up-to-date information accurately and promptly. Players can even input their own statistics.
This is the first time that this particular technology has been used at a women’s professional golf tournament in Europe having been successfully operated at the 2010 Asian Games and by the CLPGA in China since 2009.
After entering scores, an alarm will sound with a message shown when a player’s score is different from the score inputted by her marker. There is also a shortcut key for calling a referee.
Players can use the device to look up their own hole-by-hole scores, their competitors’ hole-by-hole scores, the current top five positions in the tournament and the cut line.
At the end of a round the players will use the PDA to print the score card and this will be then be checked and signed in recording in the traditional way.
